Losing Control

Hey guys!
I just wanted to share with you something that has really been on my mind lately.
For starters, I'm a bit of a control freak at times. It's one of my weaknesses. Well, recently I've been becoming more aware that I can't control everything.
I can't foresee the future and see what day I'll die. I can't control the world around me if my parents suddenly decided to get a divorce. I can't control whether or not a fire destroys my house.
..In fact, now that I think about it... I'm not really in control of anything, am I?

God is.

Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under HIS control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. -Philippians 3:20-21

God is the only one in control.

I'm striving to remember this. It's difficult, I must admit... and even painful at times. But what would we do with our lives if we knew who was really in control? What would we be able to accomplish if we actually realized that God is going to make us thrive if we acknowledge His control? What would we have to fear from things in this life?

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” -Romans 1:20

"What in the WORLD does this have to do with a Devotional?!?" You ask. Ready for it??? Click on your profile in a separate window... whether it be on facebook, myspace, tddm, twitter, blogger, google+, etc. Look at your profile photo. How do you think strangers and non-friends think of your photo. Play devils advocate and answer those questions again about the display. It's What You Were Made For

{God talking to Moses in the wilderness} "Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” -Exodus 3:10-12

It's so easy to think that God can’t use us for one reason or another. “I’m not good enough. I’m not smart enough. I’m not fast enough. I’m not skinny enough.” There are a million reasons that the world tells us that we don’t belong with them, and these are the same reasons that we tell ourselves that we can’t do anything for God. Moses thought the exact same way when God called him.

"All for one, and one for all". The famous war cry of the three musketeers... most likely, you have heard of the trio and heard how great they were. When I was a child, I admired their closeness to each other and how they fought together, triumphing over their enemies.

Deep Thoughts Bible Study - Romans 12:16

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. -Romans 12:16

If you've been following along with me as we study this section of Romans, you may have noticed that many of the verses have been short phrases, about half the length of this one. Although today's verse is longer, there is a unifying theme: keep your mind in the right place. We will look at each of the three sentences, one at a time.

God's Chisel

Please pray for Pastor Adam and their wellness. He had to take a break this Sunday from "Sunday's Special Request" to take care of some personal business. We look forward to his return next week. In the mean time, we wanted to share a video that makes us smile but is so very true. Have a Blessed Sunday everyone!

You're too tall, you're too small; you're too fat, you're too thin; you're too normal, you're too weird; you're too confident, you're too shy. People blurt out their opinions left, right and centre, and if we're not careful, we can allow them to damage us.
People do the same with Jesus- voicing out their opinions: He's not real, He's not God, He's not important, He doesn't matter, He's boring, He's mad, He's a conman, He's dead. If we are not careful, we can allow them to nudge us into unbelief too, twisting our thoughts, words, hopes, and experiences into an unrecognisable shape.
