Christian Music
Here's a thought: Did you know that there is no such thing as "Christian Music" ?
If there is "Christian Music" then what is all the rest of the music called that doesn't talk about God? That's almost religion talk! Music is music. Instruments make music, not words. Lyrics, however - can be Christian. Meaning the Lyrics can match up to any genre you want. It's the message you are listening to. There are so many messages out there - so many that are negative, sexual, emotional, hurtful, positive, artistic, and sometimes fun. What message do you want to send as a Christian? What genre do you listen to?

I listen to some "Christian Screamo" but only two songs. One of them is Cassie by Flyleaf, which I do believe can inspire. Some of the lyrics are:
"Do you believe in God?
Written on the bullet,
say yes to pull the trigger...
I will pull the trigger"
Like, standing up for your faith. The other one is Perfect by Flyleaf and it's about being perfect in weakness.
But it's definitely not my favorite kind of music. I do like rock/pop music, but it has to be Christian or clean or I won;t listen to it.
I like:
By Your Side by Tenth Avenue North
American Dream by Casting Crowns
What if His People Prayed? by Castign Crowns
I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe
and lots more... It really puts me in a better mood, especially when I listen to it on the way to school :)
I had a very hard time finding non-secular music, but then on a whim I checked out the 'Christian' stations on my radio streamer and found one called 'The Crossing.' They have alternative genre music with God-centered lyrics, which is exactly what I needed and wasn't even sure existed. Whenever I listen to it I hear a song that I want to buy (if only I had more money!). This station brought me to the Sidewalk Prophets, Britt Nicole, Tenth Avenue North, and countless other favorite songs. I thank God for showing it to me. (It was the first Christian station I tried, and it had a good song on when I found it which made me pay attention. I later tried the other stations and didn't like them as much.)
For those who want to check out The Crossing, the station is listed under Radio in itunes, is available through CBS and AOL radio players, and has a live streaming player at it's website thecrossingfm.com. I hope I could help someone find some good music!
if it worked heres a link.
did you try the link nate?
Fly Leaf isn't screamo... Well not by me and I listen to Screamo full time. You may not be able to hear the lyrics if you aren't attuned to them but a good band is I Am Terrified who sings fully about how God influences everything. They sing and scream of how they worship.
I like screamo (christian screamo) because I seem to get a power from it. Another good band is As I Lay Dying.
yeah i did it worked
FlyLeaf is slightly screamo, but not a lot. Not like some of those songs you hear where all you here is scream after scream after scream... it does have it's moment though.
I do think Christian Screamo is good too, and I'll be sure to check out those bands. It really shows the emotion that God draws--in a good way because it gets them excited.
From Wikipedia: "Flyleaf is an American rock band, formed in the Belton and Temple"
Last.fm calls Flyleaf: "alternative rock, rock, alternative, hard rock "
Sorry to dwell on this a tad too long, but they aren't screamo.
On another note, I lsitend to 'Cassie' and the only part where you might have mistakened her to scream is around the 2;15 mark but it's actually a raspy yell...I know I sound really weird saying that but screamo is from the diaphragm not the throat.
Yes, I agree.
okay so .. this whole verse is talking about Lucifer (Satan when he was an angel in heaven) .. if you dont know what cherub means, it means the head angel of music. so Lucifer was the head angel of the Lord's music in heaven..
what do you think is one of Satan's most powerful and enticing tools in the world today?? haha, music!
secular music today that is not spirit-filled and glorifying God is obviously coming from some place else. Music may have a sick beat and the music is just too catchy. but really the lyrics are influencing your heart. even if you ignore the lyrics and what they mean while listening to the songs, they are still pouring into your heart and into your mind. so remember that!! because you may not realize it, but music effects you majorly.. !!
anyways, thats the way i feel :)
This is so true Krysta, absolutely true. In fact, the songs by the Marilyn Manson band in the 90's influenced things like the Columbine Massacre. It's crazy that such things are considered Freedom of Speech, I'm pretty sure that's not what our founders meant when they wrote that, considering most (if not all) were Christian... Of course, if you aren't from the USA you might not get it
My favorite station is Air1, which comes in in my area as well as like oklahoma and stuff but it has great christian centered music, all different styles. It has a little for everyone. Check it out at www.air1.com and click listen now. :)
Yes, they were sometimes done under the influence of drugs, but my mom never did drugs, and doesn't associate songs like 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' with LSD like other people might, while someone else might think of drugs and be influenced by the song differently.
So it depends on your perspective.
Krystaa is great :) She's very smart and definitely knows what she's talking about!
